Beautiful Smile

Dental Care is More Important than you may think. There are facts that I am sure you will find very interesting.

Show those whites! Yes we take pride in our smiles….our teeth have a lot to say about us. These days there are no excuses not to know how to care for your teeth. Just as a reminder of why oral hygiene/care is so important. Clean teeth and good breath= beauty and lots of kisses too!

Did You Know:

Over 90% of diseases will show up in the mouth.

People who keep their natural teeth (apposed to having dentures) live longer.

75% of people have Periodontal Disease!!!! If you think you don’t …think again chances are damn good you do!

Heart Disease is connected to Periodontal Disease. It was a cardiologist who discovered the same material identified as, Plaque as the same material that clogs your arterial walls!

Cavities, Periodontal Disease and Oral Cancer may not hurt and you may not know you have anything going on at all. Which means it is that much more important to see your Dentist on a regular bases.

You may still have gum disease even though you brush all the time…It is FLOSSING that is just as if Not MORE important than just brushing!

As I used to explain to patients (I worked in dental hygiene years ago), It’s easy to have good oral hygiene just floss and brush everyday BUT First get back on track, get your teeth cleaned from your hygienist so all that bacteria is out of your gums. Remember if you have ANY bleeding in your mouth/gums that is the sign of infection, you can easily get a handle on it by getting it all cleaned out and maintaining these new habits below…It’s EASY!

Watch out for sugary foods- when left in the mouth the sugar will work with the bacteria in your own mouth and secrete acid which will break down your teeth causing tooth decay. If you eat anything or drink anything that has a lot of sugar in it including sticky foods like potato chips or pasta they can cause more damage than a candy bar (if it sticks around too long)…floss and brush the substance off of your teeth right after or as soon as possible. Now for EVERY DAY AND NIGHT….1. Floss 2. Brush Teeth (3 minutes- soft brush) 3. Brush Tongue 4. Rinse (water or if you like mouth wash)

Tip on stains- If you are like me you just so happen to like drinks that come with staining agents like coffee, tea, wine, or juices carrot, beet, wheat grass…etc. Just rinse with water after you drink your beverage this will cut down the stain considerably! There are great whitening products out there use as directed and you will see a difference! YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE THIS: If you are into SAVING MONEY…..I did an experiment in the bleaching department and discovered that the whitening strips are just as Superior as the fancy go-to-get-bleaching-tray methods!!! YES it does take a little longer like a week longer with the store product vs professional but it will give you the same results. I was quoted $400 just to get trays made I was like O no you don’t besides I know this game first hand! Save yourself some Money, you can have white teeth too!

Bare Skin Secrets

If there is just 1 thing you could do for your skin and 1 thing only take… SEA SALT BATHS!! I have experienced such an improvement in the texture of my skin, it’s super soft and feels healthy! After tending to life’s duties (a million trillion things on the agenda) all day,….take a Salt Bath before bed even if you’re tired….do this for about 2 weeks 4 baths a week….and tell me you don’t see and feel a difference in your skin!

Simple Goodies

Fruits & V-C

We love our fruit around here. I notice the more fruit I eat the more vibrant my skin is. Eating fresh fruit also helps keep you well stocked in the vitamin C department as well a good source of fiber.

Healthy Hair

Everyone wants Healthy Hair, right! The first time I colored my hair I was 25…I wanted highlights! I knew that it was not exactly good for my hair but I did it anyway. Now I love to color my hair to cover those pesky white stragglers!! My Dad was gray at the age 30 Yikes! I haven’t followed…not yet and all I can is thank baby jesus for hair color! Along with coloring there are other drying agents like chlorine in the water, sun, hair products and don’t forget HEAT from your drier and flat irons!

The best things you can do are:

Do Not wash your hair everyday as you know washing strips all the natural oils out of your hair. Go as long as you can. I can go 2-3 days….here is a secret if you have bangs just wash your bangs every day they are closest to your face so they get oily faster but washing just the front most part of your hair it will make it look fresh everyday.

Cut your hairs spit-ends off when it needs it.

Use heat for styling as little as possible.

Use leave-in oil products for hair. I put oil back into my hair after every time I dry it. You will love the shine!

Deep conditioning treatments are nice!

Unless you HAVE-To don’t use sticky hair products! I know many of you need to use products to maintain your style especially with shorter hair styles …it might be worth it to find a quality product.

Keep your hair tide back or best in a braid in windy situations or when you are under a lot of sun exposure don’t forget your hat!

Save Your Skin

I have been a victim of my own fun in the sun! 7 Years ago I burned severely…the burn, ON MY FACE. It was devastating! I was in Cancun Mexico enjoying a nap on the beach….I was in a deep sleep about 2 hours probably due to the hangover I was suffering from way too much damn Tequila the night before! My forehead, noes and cheeks where fried and scabbed. This was the first sunburn of my life. To be honest up to that point I didn’t think my skin would ever burn because of my Latina blood. WHAT EVER! Anyhow I had a considerable amount of discoloration on my face for years after as a result. Without make-up I looked dreadful and compared myself to animals with markings and a boyfriend of mine even made a commit to me saying that I looked like I had leprosy, lovely right?! I did seek help from a couple of dermatologists and finally found a therapy that has help immensely without going through laser treatments! I did go through some sessions of laser treatments and learned that it wasn’t the answer for my situation!

Please READ the best ways you can avoid all of the pain and agony of going through an experience like this…… consider these tips to keep your skin protected:

When playing by the water: Apply a Generous of broad-spectrum water-resistant sunscreen with a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of at least 30 to all exposed skin. “Broad-spectrum” provides protection from ultraviolet A (UVA) and ultraviolet B (UVB) rays. Don’t Forget to Re-apply every couple of hours.

Protective clothing helps! Don’t forget your MOVIE STAR accessories- wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses!

Kick-It in the shade. The sun’s rays are strongest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. So if you are planning a run, hike or bike ride do it before or after if you can.

Okay Snow Bunny’s the sun will reflect off of the snow and make it more intense. It also reflects off sand and water which can increase your chance of sunburn.

Stay away from tanning beds. Ultraviolet light can cause skin cancer and leave you with more wrinkling than your genes intended. Cheat to look tan by using sunless self-tanning products!

Keep an eye on your skin-note any changes like, growing, or bleeding on your skin, if you are seeing changes see your dermatologist.

Skin cancer is very treatable when caught early BUT take the practice of being proactive….look fabulous and feel great!

Feel Beautiful

You have the key to unlock your beauty…to find your beauty… to obtain your beauty forever. Now lets get to finding that Key!

What is it to feel beautiful? Maybe getting a facial or your hair done at the salon…maybe shopping for fun items that you look great in. The problem with this list is that these things are just temporary fixes. Is it really possible to feel beautiful all the time and is it possible to feel beautiful with out spending money? In order to really truly satisfy an inquiry like this you are going to have to dig deep to remember what it is to, first feel beautiful and then identify the things around that.

Beauty is not always tide to aesthetic value as you know so think about beauty on levels that may encompass emotional, mental as well as social aspects that maybe contributing factors. I can’t come up with your answers I do have my own and am consciously aware of what those are as in what makes me feel beautiful, knowing that consciousness generates the power to act. The point to this practice is to connect a want with a how-to-get. I want to feel beautiful how do I get that. Remember it is you that is responsible for you. You might feel beautiful because that is the conformation you get from outside sources but what is most important is that those feelings are generated from you. This is one way of feeling beautiful everyday maybe even on the days you are not 100%.

Once you go through the identification process then you can be active in choosing if you want to feel beautiful or not. This I know sounds strange, a woman not wanting to feel beautiful kind of like not wanting chocolate or something like that. Every woman has a right to feel beautiful regardless of beauty products, clothes, societal views/judgments or even outside acknowledgments (even though we love it!). Strip it all down, get to the source, make your identifications then make friends with it. Step away from any intimidation or fear you may have about the subject of beauty if you have any. Any negative or ‘not worthy’ feelings need to go! Embrace all aspects you find in your discovery of beauty it’s your right be in your safe place and try on the feeling of beauty everyday and all it really entails. Where do you go from here? Don’t just feel beautiful be beautiful…Be Bella! You deserve it, Forever!

Get Your Beauty Sleep

Have you ever heard, ‘Get Your Beauty Sleep’? Sure you have! It’s no myth! I believe one of the leading factors has to do with cortisol levels. When you rest you rejuvenate, alleviating tension and stress that has accumulated from the days activities. I personally look and feel so much better when I get over 7 hours of sleep. I like to get around 9. It doesn’t always happen so I nap when ever possible and even when I wake up from my naps I swear I look 100% better and more refreshed. I was watching a news clip on the latest research covering the benefits of sleep there are many and yes Beauty is one of them! They offered an ugly list of the latest studies and facts linked to sleep deprivation as well, this is the side you don’t want to be on!

The statement that I liked the sound of very much was, “Sleep is the BEST makeover money can buy” I believe it. People who are sleep deprived face a number of struggles……… weight gain is one of them. Try this as an experiment if you think this is a tall-tale, Get extra sleep for 2 days in a row take a picture of your self in good, natural light. After that, photograph yourself when you are feeling sleep deprived….you be the judge. One more thing- keep in mind, it’s not all about beauty it’s about feeling good too! Get Your Beauty Sleep! Que Bella!
